Julia is a contemporary painter-printmaker who utilizes etching and monotype to explore repetition, texture, and the translucency of layered imagery. Her work draws inspiration from everyday rituals, repetitive actions observed in nature and memories.
Julia’s artistic journey commenced in Portugal, where she developed a deep appreciation for traditional Portuguese crafts, including white stitch embroidery, ceramics, and the natural world. She further honed her skills through a Fine Art Printmaking education at the University of East London and Camberwell College of Arts. Experimentation plays a key role in her process, and she embraces serendipity to create unique narratives within her pieces.
Julia’s work delves into environmental themes through subtle incorporation, raising awareness through her art. A unique element of her current practice involves printing on Loewe magazine pages, adding another layer of meaning and inviting viewers to engage with the artwork on multiple levels.
While etching and monotype are her primary mediums, Julia often incorporates painting to further explore texture and juxtaposition. This pushes the boundaries of traditional printmaking and allows her to develop a distinct visual language.
Julia’s work has been selected for several prestigious print exhibitions and Fairs, eg.the Woolwhich print fair with the Thames side Print studio award in 2021.
Her artworks are held in private collections throughout Europe and the UK
